Based on the true story about Canadian Folk Artist Maud Lewis who was afflicted with rheumatoid arthritis. She went on to become one of the most inspiring figures in Canadian art. To escape her protective/controlling family Maudie takes on a job as a housekeeper to a reclusive gruff man. Her passion for painting and her efforts to protect this man from himself turn into a touching story of unexpected love and friendship.

“This is a painter whose canvas was her life, and whose life her canvas. Maudie is a magnificent celebration of both” The National Post

“Sally Hawkins delivers an unforgettable performance as Nova Scotian folk artist Maud Lewis in this gently flowing biopic set in the 1930s,” Georgia Straight.

“The heart and mind of Maudie are always in the right place” Globe & Mail
