Set in Bratislava during the final decade of communism, it examines the abuse of power at a middle school. The Teacher, played by Zuzana Maurery, tears into the part of a lifetime as a terrifying instructor who heads the local Communist party and uses her pupils to manipulate their parents for her own personal benefit. The year is 1984, the head teacher calls for a secret meeting with the parents where the divide between the teacher’s supporters and detractors is brought into focus. This film is based on a true story. Petr Jarchovsky the film’s screenwriter experienced this at his middle school.

“As usual, Hrebejk’s direction is smooth and the ensemble performances top-notch.” Variety.

“Hrebejk and Jarchovsky deftly employ humour as a way of mocking and undercutting their anti-heroine while preventing their overall point about power and corruption from becoming preachy.” Eye for Film.
