“Under African Skies” wins inaugural People’s Choice Award

With the ballots tallied after MIFF 2012, Joe Berlinger’s “Under African Skies” became the winner of the first Pomme d’Or, Meaford International Film Festival’s People’s Choice Award. The award, sponsored by Barbetta Orchards of Meaford, recognizes the most popular film of the festival.

“Under African Skies” documents Paul Simon’s tour to celebrate the 25th anniversary of his “Graceland” album, including footage of the original recording sessions and an exploration of the controversy surrounding the album’s recording.  Featuring commentary from Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Quincy Jones, Harry Belafonte, Paul McCartney, David Byrne and more, the film is an anatomy of a profound artistic achievement and a meditation on the role of the artist in society.
